Today, we got the conduit, service line, and water pipe in. I think the most exciting part of the day was breakfast! Keeping with our quest to try all the breakfast places in town, we stopped into Benson’s by the Beach.
Benson’s isn’t really “by” the beach as it’s on the main drag through town. We got seated in the windowed area on the north side, and found it a great place to people watch. I ordered the biscuits and gravy along with a side of eggs, and Boyfriend ordered the sausage and eggs with a side of pancakes. He asked our server if he could have two bacon and two sausage instead of four sausage (menu said no substitutions) but she said yes without hesitation. Our food came quickly and was cooked fairly well. I’m picky about my eggs; when I order them over-medium, the yolks should still be liquid, but not runny. In this case, one egg was perfect and one was trending toward over-hard. I also prefer a fluffy biscuit, and the biscuits Benson’s served were dense enough that the gravy sat on top without soaking in. I liked the flavors of the food though. I didn’t find the gravy sweet tasting (as reported by other reviewers), and I only ate half of my half-order. Boyfriend gobbled down his entire breakfast (except for a piece of bacon that he shared with me) and ate the rest of the biscuits and gravy. We only dented the pancakes; the pancakes here are huge! The price was pretty much the same as what we found at Laurie’s Homestead Breakfast and in my opinion, both places were about the same in food quality and quantity.
